Saturday at Swangard Stadium was one of those days that reminds you exactly what Burnaby is made of.
The 4th Annual Pinoy Festival brought thousands of people out to Central Park for two days of Filipino culture, food, live music, and community. I was there on Saturday, and the energy from the moment you walked through the gates was something you could feel — families everywhere, colours everywhere, the kind of crowd that shows up because they genuinely want to be there.

The cultural performances on the main stage were a highlight. Watching performers in full traditional costume command that stage in front of a packed Swangard crowd — that’s not something you forget quickly. The craftsmanship in those costumes alone tells you how seriously this community takes its heritage.

What struck me most was how genuinely family-oriented the whole event felt. This wasn’t a corporate festival. It was a community putting its best forward, sharing its culture openly, and welcoming everyone who walked through those gates. That’s the kind of event Burnaby should be proud to host every year.

The Filipino community is one of the largest and most rooted communities in this city. Days like Saturday are a reminder of the depth of culture and pride that exists here — and why showing up for each other matters.
